She was buried at Grahamsville Rural Cemetery, at Grahamsville, Sullivan County, NY, USA.4

     Geoffrey Brown says that Nellie was a member of the Liberty Methodist Church, and that Rev Duane Buddle conducted her funeral. According to the Middletown Times, she was buried in the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery. Nellie and Justin resided in Parksville.

Pearl May Asthalter of Liberty, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 3, 2008 at her home. She was 91.
The daughter of the late William and Pearl May Grant Hotchkin, she was born November 20, 1916 in the Town of Neversink, NY.
Pearl's family owned and operated the Hotchkin House in Aden, NY. Pearl comes from a large family. She had four brothers, Albert, George, William, and Earl, and four sisters, Eva May, Nellie, Philena, and Mary. Mary is the only surviving sibling. Pearl May Grant married George J. Asthalter on December 5, 1936. George and Pearl owned George J. Asthalter Excavation, Inc. in Liberty, NY. They loved to travel the world and they loved deep sea fishing. George and Pearl had a beautiful hunting camp that she would go to every evening to feed the deer. They both loved the outdoors. Pearl was a wonderful cook and she made sure that her family and extended family had a filling lunch on the table every day. She was a very loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Pearl was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Liberty.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Siegel of Liberty, NY and Joan Adele Cheh of Forestburgh, NY; five grandsons: Joseph Siegel and his wife, April, Steven Siegel and his wife, Kim, Robert Siegel and his wife, Michelle, William Siegel and his wife, Nancy, Christian Cheh and his wife, Heather; two granddaughters, Barbara Ann Schmidt and her husband, Derek and Alexa Mickelson and her husband, Ron; 15 great grandchildren: Hunter, Dorian, Harley, Hailey, Kristen, Lindsie, Andrew, Jessica, William Benjamin, Joseph J., Joshua, Summer Pearl, Breckin, Kelgin and Amelia Claire; one great granddaughter, Quinn Alexandria and several nieces and nephew. She was predeceased by her loving husband, George, in September of 1983.
Visitation will be Friday, November 7, from 9-11 a.m. in the Harris Funeral Home, West Street at Buckley, Liberty, NY..3

     Pearl and her sister Nellie married brothers, Justus and George Asthalter.

The daughter of the late William Meade and Pearl Grant Hotchkin, she was born on June 7, 1921 in Bittersweet, NY.
Mary was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church and the Liberty Methodist Women's Group. She was a lifetime member of the Clarence Hoyt VFW Post #9217 Ladies Auxiliary and she also belonged to the Revonah Chapter OES #443 in Liberty.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, August Kahn of Liberty; a son, Fred Kahn and his wife, Kathleen of Liberty; two grandchildren, Lisa and James Phillips; three great-grandchildren: Skyler, Jared and Shanoah; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.
There will be no visitation.
Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope, NY.. She was buried at Middle Hope Crematory, at Middle Hope, Orange County, NY, USA.

     Ethel was born at AR, USA, in 1890. Age 20 at the 1910 census. Birth year 1890 found in her marriage record.. She was the daughter of Henry Lawson Stroope and Florence Belle Stafford. She married Mac Leod Hotchkin at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma County, OK, USA, on 27 April 1908. Married 2 years at the 1910 census. Oklahoma County Marriage records 1890 - 1895. Ethel died after 1910.

     The 1910 census of Oklahoma City, OK has Bessie and MacLeod living with William T. Snelling and his wife Florence B. Bessie and a sister Jessie are called daughters but must really be step-daughters as both parents were born in AR, while William T. was born in TN. Because of this they will be given a surname of Stropps. Family records called Bessie Strump so these are close. The census says that Florence had 3 children living but the 3rd cannot be found. The family is not found in the 1900 census.

     The Clodfelter genealogy calls her Betty Jean.

Betty Jean Clodfelter passed away Friday, November 13, 2009, at St. Joseph Village in Manhattan. She was 83.

She was born May 4, 1926, in Arkansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Macleod and Susie Hotchkin, and had lived her entire life in Kansas; in Winfield, where she attended high school, Plainville and Manhattan. She married Lutie D. Clodfelter, of Winfield, KS, on July 20, 1945. They were married nearly 42 years, until his death on May 5, 1987.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Braden, and a brother, Donald Hotchkin. She is survived by sisters, Eunice Tupin of Phoenix, AZ, and Bobbie Riegle of Winfield, KS. Also surviving are her son, Micheal Clodfelter, and his wife Rena, of Lawrence, and her daughter, Linda Schmidt, and her husband Patrick, of Alta Vista, KS. Grandchildren include Tracy Schmidt, and his wife, Hillary, of Manhattan; Todd Schmidt, and his wife Michelle, of Independence, MO; and USAF SSgt. Thomas Clodfelter, stationed at Missawa, Japan. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren: William, Kyler, Kiefer, Katie and Josh.

She worked in various department stores in Winfield and Plainville for many years, but was primarily a homemaker and loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family.

Her favorite pastime was her daily walks. She could outpace and exhaust people half her age, and even when age and infirmity required the use of a walker she could still trot down the sidewalk at a steady clip. All those who knew her and loved her will retain an image of that lean lady in motion.

Graveside Services will be 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday November 17, 2009 at the Plainville Cemetery, Plainville, Kansas.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday November 15, 2009 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, Manhattan, Kansas.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association and left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.

     At the time of Jessie' death she was the express agent and Western Union Operator for the Prattsburg Railway.

She married Howard Warren Sprague at NY, USA, circa 1927. Lydia Emily Hotchkin and Howard Warren Sprague were divorced circa 1955. She married Grover Davis at NY on 15 February 1959. Lydia Emily Hotchkin died on 21 July 1991 at Bath, Steuben County, NY, USA, at age 84.1 She was buried at Prattsburgh Rural Cemetery, at Prattsburgh, Steuben County, NY, USA.

Richard Fee Hotchkin

     Richard Fee Hotchkin was born on 1 October 1910 at Prattsburgh, Steuben County, NY, USA. He was the son of Charles Fee Hotchkin and Jessie Nancy Deighton. Richard Fee Hotchkin died on 28 October 1929 at New York City, New York County, NY, USA, at age 19.1,2 He was buried at Prattsburgh Rural Cemetery, at Prattsburgh, Steuben County, NY, USA.

     Richard spent most of his life in Prattsburg, where he attended the Franklin Academy, played on its basket ball and base ball teams. He was a member of the local Boy Scout troop and a lover of the outdoors. Several months before his death he accepted a position with the New York State Agricultural Department with headquarters near New York City. When he became ill, he went to the home of his aunt, Mrs. Alfred Augus.

     Louise was born at Berea, Cuyahoga County, OH, USA, on 3 June 1895. The 1930 Census gives her birth in Ohio and her parents both in New York. Betty Hotchkin gave the city in Ohio..2 She was the daughter of Louis John Lang and Barbara Charlotte Graf. She married Harry Vance Hotchkin at Buffalo, Erie County, NY, USA, on 30 August 1919.3 Louise died in January 1986 at Virginia Beach, Virginia Beach County, VA, USA, at age 90.4

     Elsie Hotchkin Moon says that Louise was the daughter of Mrs. Barbara Lang. Betty Morse Hotchkin also uses the name as Lang and a middle name of Katherine.
