Annie Herbert Hotchkin

F, (March 1868 - 5 August 1868)
Annie Herbert Hotchkin was born in March 1868 at Watertown, Jefferson County, NY, USA. She was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Hotchkin and Jane M. Little. Annie Herbert Hotchkin died on 5 August 1868 at Watertown, Jefferson County, NY. Died at 5 months according to cemetery records.. She was buried at Brookside Cemetery, at Watertown, Jefferson County, NY, USA. Cemetery records say, "Annie Herbert Hotchkin, daughter of Benjamin and Jane M, age 4 months".

It seems very unlikely that Annie is a birth daughter of Jane as Jane's age would have been 56 at Annie's birth; however, cemetery records clearly list her as a daughter.

Thomas Hotchkin

M, (1653 - 27 December 1711)
Thomas Hotchkin was born in 1653 at CT, USA. He died on 27 December 1711 at New Haven, New Haven County, CT, USA. Gravestone on the west wall of Grove St Cemetery says "Lyeth Y Body of Thomas Hotchkin who died December 27th 1711 at age 58.. He was buried at Grove Street Cemetery, at New Haven, New Haven County, CT, USA.

The Compiler found his gravestone along the west wall of Grove Street Cemetery, New Haven, Ct; the name is clearly Hotchkin on the stone and his birth date was readable. All the stones along the cemetery wall were moved from the Commons area when that cemetery was eliminated. This Thomas's death is reported in New Haven Vital Records, Part II.
The Barbour Collection as indexed in LDS IGI 7450338, 002924 shows Thomas Hotchkin as the father of two children born in New Haven; no mother is given. A different entry shows a Thomas Hodgkin marrying Sarah Willmot in New Haven on 11-27-1667. This entry is undobtably a Hotchkiss as the Hotchkiss family claims a Thomas Hotchkiss who married Sarah Willmot. Thomas Hotchkiss was the son of Samuel and Elizabeth Cleverly. It is possible that these are the same Thomas as one of the children is Sarah except that the time between Marriage and first birth is an unusal 13 years. The Vital Records used an (s) on the Hotchkin name.

Chloe Hotchkin was born circa 1775. She resided at West Bloomfield, Ontario County, NY, USA, in 1803. She married Reuben Parmelee at West Bloomfield, Ontario County, NY, after 1851.2

Who is Chloe? Her location in West Bloomfield and approximate age could mean that she is an unknown daughter of Rev. Beriah. Chloe was Reuben's second wife, married after the death of his first wife Sally Cruttenden.
According to a number of internet sites, it looks as if she is really Chloe Hotchkiss, born 10 Nov 1777 in Norfolk, CT; daughter of Samuel Hotchkiss.Their is some question about this as Samuel Hotchkiss and Samuel Hotchkin, both of Norfolk were often confused.

Thomas H. Hotchkin

M, (6 July 1819 - 10 August 1887)
Thomas was born at NY, USA, on 6 July 1819. His birth is calculated from age at death --68-1-4. He is age 4 at the 1850 census and called Stephen W.. He was the son of George Mead Hotchkin II and Harriet Curtis. He married Mary Ann (Molly) Brown at Chatham, Columbia County, NY, USA, in 1840. Thomas H. Hotchkin was employed in 1850 as a Carpenter. He appeared on the census of 1850 at Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, MI, USA. The census lists the family as: Thomas Hotchkin, 32, b NY, carpenter; wife Mary, 30, b NY; dau Delia A., 9; son Stephen W., 4; dau Sarah J., 4; son Monroe, 1. pg 220, fam. 645. He resided at Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, MI, circa 1850. He married Elizabeth R. McKone at Marshall, Calhoun County, MI, USA, on 3 September 1865. The records say that Thomas of Ann Arbor, age 40, married Elizabeth Hill, age 35, at Marshall, MI. They were married by Eld. J.E. Church, MG and witnessed by H.S. Spaulding and A.V. Rautland, both of Marshall, MI..1 Thomas H. Hotchkin died on 10 August 1887 at Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, MI, at age 68. Gravestone says Aug 6 1887..2 He was buried at Fairview Cemetery, at Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, MI, USA.

Thomas is assigned as a son of George with very little evidence, except that he fits the age range and his daughter Delia was living in Troy at the time of her marriage. The other possible link to the George Hotchkin family is the name Delia and the fact that a Smith was living in the home, as Albert, son of George, married Delia Smith. Thomas must have moved to Michigan between 1846 and 1849 as his 3rd child was born in NY and 4th child in MI. Elihue Smith a carpenter, born 1824 in NY was living in the home at the 1850 census. Thomas' death is shown in death records 1885-1900, Washtenaw Co., MI; death on 10 August 1887 at age 68-1-44 giving his birth on 6 July 1819. The death records state that he was a carpenter. His parents names were not shown on the death records. His Will was not probated until 1904 and a letter dated 21 November 1904 from Temple, TX says that the writer W. S. Hotchkin is his son and should be considered in the Will. The probate refers to the recent death of Thomas' Widow. A deposition signed by William F. Breakey says that Thomas died 10 August 1887 and no heirs are known. His middle initial H. is given in his Will. On 18 December 1849 he bought land in Sec 21, Town 2 South, Range 6 East.
Thomas was listed in the Ann Arbor Polk Directories of 1868, 1872, 1883-84, and 1886-87. All directories said that he was a carpenter. His early addresses were North East end of Broadway; and later 129 Broadway. Starting in the 1890 directory Elizabeth Hotchkin (widow of Thomas) was listed until 1902; no 1903-1905 directories were available; she lived at 4 Brown St, then 20 Traver, later at 1109 Broadway. She is last listed in the 1902 directory of Ann Arbor.
Thomas and his faily is buried in Fairview Cemetery, Ann Arbor, MI under a gravestone that clearly calls the family Hotchkinns. There is no indication as to who used this name. It is clear that they lived under the name Hotchkin and marriage and death records call them Hotchkin.
