I have two versions of the story to add to this: 1) a Smith Geneaology by my great Aunt states that “Isaac Adams Smith, Daniel, and Abel Smith were in the war of 1776. They were taken prisoners by the English. Isaac, the youngest and not yet out of his teens, was paroled and given his freedom on Long Island. Abel and Daniel, with other officials, were put on the "Old Asia" Man of War, and held prisoners until the close of the war.“ and 2) From the 1902 New Century Atlas - Wyoming Co NY: "Mr. Nathan L. Smith and his sister, Mary L. were born on the farm-the former in 1828-where they still reside. The father, Isaac Smith, was born December 6th, 1792 in Canopus Hollow, Dutchess County, New York. His father, his father’s brother, and fathers brother-in-law, took part in the Revolutionary War, the brother giving his life for his country."
