Edith Rozella Hotchkin

F, (10 October 1883 - 2 June 1942)
Compiler is not sure but this likely Edith Rozella Hotchkin Fritz as she was the 1st reunion Secretary and hence must have been there and everyone else is identified.
Edith Rozella Hotchkin was born on 10 October 1883 at Spring Arbor, Jackson County, MI, USA. She was the daughter of Smith Curtis Hotchkin and Mary Elizabeth Crispell. She married Lavata August Fritz at Charlotte, Eaton County, MI, USA, on 14 February 1901.1,2 Edith Rozella Hotchkin died on 2 June 1942 at Concord, Jackson County, MI, USA, at age 58.3 She was buried at Maple Grove Cemetery, at Concord, Jackson County, MI, USA.

Edith's birth is recorded in Jackson Co. Vital Records, page 55, #1883, under the name of Edith Rozella Hodgkiss of Spring Arbor. This record gives her parents as Mary E. Hodgkiss (wife of Smith Curtis Hotchkin) and Joseph B. Klinesmith of Spring Arbor. It is possible that this report is accurate and Edith is not the daughter of Smith Curtis. At the 1884 special census of Spring Arbor, Jackson Co., MI she is with her parents and her age is given as 0, born 1 October 1883. The 1900 census finds her living with her father and brother in Mills Twp., Midland Co., MI. Her age is given as 16, and born in MI, October 1883. According to their marriage license (pg 56, 1901 Jackson Co. Marriage Records), Larata and Edith Hotchkin were married on 14 February 1901 at Charlotte, by Hirim D. Artemus Enmon Hotchkin

M, (15 August 1865 - 23 March 1947)
Artie Hotchkin, 1937, Ransomville, NY
Artemus was born at Jackson County, MI, USA, on 15 August 1865. He was age 8 at the 1875 NY state census.. He was the son of Abram Eli Hotchkin Jr. and Harriet Maham. He married Margaret Clark at Niagara County, NY, USA, on 20 May 1887.1 Artemus Enmon Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1900 at Porter, Niagara County, NY, USA. The census lists the family as: Hotchkin, Artimus, age 38, no birth date, born MI, father born MI, mother born NY; wife Margaret, age 39, no birth date, no children, born NY, parents born NY.. He died on 23 March 1947 at Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, USA, at age 81.2 He was buried at North Ridge Cemetery, at Ransomville, Niagara County, NY, USA. Sec 3, Lot 328 SD.

According to the article in the Niagra Falls Journal, Friday, January 15 1909, Artimus and his wife, Margaret, attended the family Christmas reunion in Michigan, leaving home on December 22 1908 and returning on 6 January 1909. That article describes him as the son of Abram and his home as Ransomville, NY. Vital Records Cards of Niagara Co., NY taken from the Niagara City Herald, May 20 1887, Pg 1, show a Mr. A.C. Hotchkin married to Miss Maggie Clark. Based on this we will give her the last name Clark. The middle initial C is an error as we know that his mille name is Enmon. He and Maggie are buried in North Ridge Cemetery on a lot owned by their daughter Alice Kilmer. Land records show two real estate purchases for Artimus and Maggie Hotchkin. The first, in 1893 they purchased from Mary S. Pool, Vol 217-530, second in 1902, from Eliz. J. Ramson, Vol 278-366.
The Compiler does not know where he got Alice and Sarah as children as the censuses show them to have no children at home between 1900 and 1920.

Luella May Hotchkin

F, (1 July 1870 - October 1924)
Luella May Hotchkin was born on 1 July 1870 at Rives Twp, Jackson County, MI, USA.1,2 She was the daughter of Abram Eli Hotchkin Jr. and Harriet Maham. She married John Wetherby Hagadorn at Ransomville, Niagara County, NY, USA, on 20 July 1894. Luella May Hotchkin died in October 1924 at Hornell, Steuben County, NY, USA, at age 54. This seems to be the better death date as an Indenture date 16 March 1925 turns over some land to her heirs. This date is given in Schmidt family bible records..

Jackson Co. Vital Records show her born in Rives on 31 July 1869 to Abram E. and Harriett Hotchkin, both of whom were born in New York. She and her husband, John W. Hagadorn (note difference in spelling) are found at the 1920 census in Steuben Co., NY. Niagara County land records show a document that is probabily the settlement of her estate after her death. "This indenture made the sixteenth day of March in the year Nineteen Hundred and Twenty Five, between, Alice Kilmer, Artimus Hotchkin Maggie Hotchkin, his wife, and John Hotchkin and Libbie Hotchkin, his wife, all of the town of Porter, County of Niagara and the State on New York, Juliette Kilmer of Buffalo, Erie County, New York and Mable E. Schmidt of the City of Cleveland, Ohio, being all the heirs at law and next of kin of Luella M. Hagadorn, late of the City of Hornell, Stuben Co., NY, deceased, who died intestate (blank) parties of the first part and Albert F. Schmidt of the City of Cleveland, State of Ohio, party of the second part (land description) parcel of land for the sum of one dollar."

John Albert Hotchkin

M, (13 August 1871 - 14 February 1937)
John A. Hotchkin, wife Elizabeth Balcom and their daughter Myrtle Violia
Conflicting evidence states that John was born at Newfane, Niagara County, NY, USA, on 13 August 1871. Age 3 at the 1875 NY state census. Schmidt Family bible has a date of 19 August, but entries look like they were all made at once.. He was the son of Abram Eli Hotchkin Jr. and Harriet Maham. He married Elizabeth (Libbie) Balcom at Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, USA, on 4 July 1901.1 John Albert Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1910 at Porter, Niagara County, NY, USA. The census lists the family as: John Hotchkins, 36 (1873), married once 9 years, NY, parents born NY; wife Libble, married once 9 years, 1 child 1 living; daughter Myrtle, 8, NY.. He registered for the World War I Draft in 1918 while living at Youngstown, Niagara County, NY, USA. The registration card gave additional information on him: "He gives his age as 45, born 13 Aug 1873. He is a farmer working for Carl Myers. He gives his wife Libby as nearest relative. He signs his name with great diffculty as if he was illiterate. The entire form is filled out by someone else.". He died on 14 February 1937 at Porter, Niagara County, NY, at age 65.2,3 He was buried at Riverdale Cemetery, at Lockport, Niagara County, NY, USA.

His age and family relationship is given in the 1900 census of Porter Center, Niagara Co., NY. The special 1892 census of New York state gives his birth as 1870/1871.

William Henry O. Hotchkin

M, (7 May 1874 - 11 December 1890)
William Henry O. Hotchkin was born on 7 May 1874 at Newfane, Niagara County, NY, USA. He was the son of Abram Eli Hotchkin Jr. and Harriet Maham. William died on 11 December 1890 at Newfane, Niagara County, NY, at age 16. This may be a burial date as it comes from the Cemetery Card. It says that he died from Influenza.Other evidence in bible records of the Schmidt support this as a death date..1 He was buried at North Ridge Cemetery, at Ransomville, Niagara County, NY, USA. He is buried with his parents. Sec 1b, Lot 61.

The 1875 census of Newfane, Niagara Co., NY gives his age as 1/12 (born May) and his name as William; this seems to be another example of alternately using the names Henry and William.
