Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1920 at Newark, Essex County, NJ, USA. The census lists the family as: Eliz F. Miller, widow, born NY, music teacher; sister Harriet Hotchkin, 49, single bookkeeper.. She lived in 1941 at Chatham, Morris County, NJ, USA. Lived here at the time of her sister Julia's death. Elizabeth died in August 1953 at Rochester, Monroe County, NY, USA, at age 92. She was buried on 13 August 1953 at Mount Hope Cemetery, at Rochester, Monroe County, NY, USA. Sec L, Lot 68.

     Her birth and marriage to Miller is listed in NEHGH, and she is found in the 1880 census living with her father and brothers and sisters at 30 Adams St., Rochester, NY.2

Anna (Annie) Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1895 at Newark, Essex County, NJ, USA. The census lists the family as: George N. Hotchkins, over age 60; Frank Hotchkins, age 20 to 60; Anna, age 20 to 60; Julia, age 30 to 60; Harriet, age 20 to 60.. She married George Selley McDougall on 11 October 1898 at Newark, Essex County, NJ.1 Anna (Annie) Hotchkin lived in 1941 at Chatham, Morris County, NJ, USA. Lived here at the time of her sister Julia's death.

     Annie birth and family relationship is listed in Talcott. The 1880 census finds her living with her father, brothers and sisters at 30 Adams St., Rochester, NY. Her age is given as 13. Annie played 21 musical instruments and it was said that there was no instrument tnat she couldn't play. Her marriage in noted in her sister Julia"s obituary.2

     Harriet was born at NY, USA, in July 1870. 1900 census gives birth date and location.. She was the daughter of George Nelson Hotchkin and Elizabeth Converse Bixby.
     The HOTCHKIN Family concert company and bell ringers gave a concert at the Presbyterian church Thanksgiving evening. The violin used by Miss HATTIE HOTCHKIN was a $200 prize she having received the first prize at the Centennial Exposition in 1876. It was a very fine entertainment. Appeared in Hornellsville Tribune 1888. Likely that the concert tolk place in Almond, NY as that was the byline.
She resided at Newark, Essex County, NJ, USA, in 1900. She lived here at the 1900 census.. Harriet (Hattie) M. Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1920 at Newark, Essex County, NJ. The census lists the family as: Living with sister Julia and brorther-in-law Vernon Beavers..

     At the 1920 census she is living at 15 Isabella Ave., Newark, NJ with her sister, Elizabeth F. Miller. She is shown in city directories of Newark, NJ during the years of 1905 through 1927. In 1905 she is called Miss Harriet Hotchkin, a music teacher, boarding at 149 Johnson, the same address as Frank Hotchkin. In 1920 she is a clerk at 40 Clinton St and lives at 15 Isabella. In 1926 she is a clerk at the Schedule Rating Office.

Augustus Hotchkin died on 7 August 1849 at Greece, Monroe County, NY.1 He was buried at Caledonia Rural Cemetery, at Caledonia, Livingston County, NY, USA. Buried in Lot 140 of the Presbyterian Stone Church, Caledonia, NY.

     Augustus died of "disease of the head" per the 1850 mortality tables.

Ebenezer Slauson (1730-1821), commanded the first company of minute men of Westchester County, New York, 1776, and promoted major in the same regiment. He was born in Connecticut; died in Westerlo, N. Y.


Alice appears in the 1903-04 Rochester City Directory as the widow of George A. Hotchkin and living at 24 Calumet. The 1906 directory show her occupation as Superintendant of the Lunch Room at East High School, a position that she held through the 1914-15 directory. Directories are available for the years 1937 through 1939 and she is still listed, without an occupation and living at 55 Meigs.
     The New York Passenger Lists 1820- 1957 show Alice M. Hotchkin, born 28 Feb 1863, making several trips to England and Europe. during 1923 and 1924.1

Evaline (Eva) Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1920 at Prattsburgh, Steuben County, NY. The census lists the family as: Hotchkin, Eva S., age 69, living with sister Susan and her husband Charles L. Saunders. 376 131 3 6. She died on 29 January 1944 at Prattsburgh, Steuben County, NY, at age 93.1 She was buried at Prattsburgh Rural Cemetery, at Prattsburgh, Steuben County, NY, USA.

     The 1880 census finds her with her parents in Prattsburg, NY and calls her Eva. A childhood illness left her frail, but she lived to be 94 and stayed all her life with her sister, Susan caring for Susan's children.

Hotchkin was in the Drug Business in 1889 at Brooklyn, Kings County, NY, USA, The Lain's City Directory of Brooklyn shows him in the Drug business. He resided at Brooklyn, Kings County, NY, USA, in 1890. He appeared on the census of 1900 at Brooklyn, Kings County, NY, USA. The census lists the family as: Hotchkin, Fred H., age 43, b 7-1856 in NY; living with Peter Rickrath.. Frederick died on 27 February 1906 at New York City, New York County, NY, USA, at age 49. He died at Roosevelt Hospital.. He was buried in March 1906 at Prattsburgh Rural Cemetery, at Prattsburgh, Steuben County, NY, USA. Cemetery records say 1907.

     Frederick had a drug store in Prattsburg prior to moving to NYC to work for Practitioners Laboratory, a pharmaceutical company. He died at Roosevelt Hospital as a result of falling downstairs. The 1900 census finds him boarding at the home of Peter Rickrath, 281 President St, Brooklyn, NY.

Francis (Frank) Granger Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1920 at Bath, Steuben County, NY, USA. The census lists the family as: Hotchkin, Frank, age 61, b NY; living with his dau Mary Dean.. He died on 9 November 1932 at Prattsburgh, Steuben County, NY, at age 74.1,2 He was buried at Prattsburgh Rural Cemetery, at Prattsburgh, Steuben County, NY, USA.

     Francis was a graduate of Franklin Academy and taught school in Prattsburg. He was usually known as Frank.

     Mary was a graduate of the Franklin Academy and the Genesee Normal School, class of 1906, and studied at NYU. She was the original collector of much of the information on the Prattsburg families. Mary was an active member of the DAR and performed considerable genealogical research. She was Secretary of the NY State Officers Club DAR.
     She taught school in Millerton, NY; North Tonawanda, NY; Nutley, NJ; Bloomfield, NJ; Rochester, NY; and in Prattsburg in her later years. She was a Director of the Prattsburg State Bank and Chairman of the Board for the Bath National Bank, and an elder and trustee of the Prattsburg Presbyterian Church. The Department of History, Presbyterian Church has a file of letters from William S. Cornwell to Mrs W. Harvey Hoag that are rather interesting from a genealogical viewpoint and are copied here as exhibits.

Florence died on 11 May 1992 at Bath, Steuben County, NY, at age 103. She died at the Taylor Health Center..2 She was buried at Prattsburgh Rural Cemetery, at Prattsburgh, Steuben County, NY, USA.

     Florence L. was a life long school teacher in Corning, NY; Akron, OH; and Bath, NY. She was a published poet and member of Colonial Dames and DAR Member #132449, based on the service of her great-great grandfather Beriah Hotchkin as a private in Captain Hand's company, Colonel Talcott's regiment, Continental Army. She graduated from Franklin Academy, Prattsburg, in 1904, and in 1908, the Geneseo State Normal School. She belonged to three Presbyterian Churches in Prattsburg, Geneseo, and Bath. The compiler, Edgar E. Hotchkin has her copy of The History of Western New York, by James Hervey Hotchkin. Her funeral was conducted by the Bottoni Funeral Home of Prattsburg and she was buried in the Prattsburg Rural Cemetery where generations of her family have been buried.

Jesse Dean Hotchkin

M, (17 October 1893 - 24 September 1944)
     Jesse Dean Hotchkin was born on 17 October 1893 at Perkinsville, Steuben County, NY, USA. His WWI Military Induction Card says that he was born in Portway, NY and was age 24 and 2/12 on Nov 23 1917.1,2 He was the son of Francis (Frank) Granger Hotchkin and Laura M. Dean. Jesse Dean Hotchkin married Julie Kearney on 17 June 1916 at Bath, Steuben County, NY, USA. Wedding announcement.3,4 Jesse Dean Hotchkin registered for the World War I Draft on 5 July 1917 while living at Bath, Steuben County, NY. The registration card gave additional information on him: "The card is damaged by water and very hard to read. He gives his birth date as 17 October 1893 in Perkinsville, NY. He works as a Painter in Bath and says that he has a crippled right hand. He says that he is married but doesn't gives his wife's name.". He was a Sgt, andserved in US Army, during the World War I. He appeared on the census of 1920 at Bath, Steuben County, NY. The census lists the family as: Hotchkin, Dean, age 25, b NY, no occupation given; wife Julia, age 24, b NY, Steno.. He died on 24 September 1944 at Bath, Steuben County, NY, at age 50. He died of pneumonia..5 He was buried at Prattsburgh Rural Cemetery, at Prattsburgh, Steuben County, NY, USA.

     Jesse was a newspaper man in upstate New York and in Rocky Mount, NC. He served in World War II and became an Infantry First Sergeant. At the 1920 census he gives his wife's name as Julia.

William George Dean married Grace Conine, daughter of Lorenzo Conine and Abigail Townsend, in 1894 at NY. William George Dean was employed as a Bank Officer. He married Mary Esther Hotchkin at Geneseo, Livingston County, NY, USA, on 3 December 1913. His obituary says that he married Mary, 3 years after the death of his first wife Grace..1,2 William George Dean died on 4 March 1917 at Bath, Steuben County, NY, USA, at age 49.3 He was buried at Prattsburgh Rural Cemetery, at Prattsburgh, Steuben County, NY, USA.
