LMU Says Good-By to A Good Friend, The Amazing Ernie Fields
Jerry Bishop, President of Lincoln Memorial University, and his wife Linda attended the memorial service for Ernie Fields on February 1, 1999 at the Stanley Congregational Church in Chatham, New Jersey.
They were joined buy former LMU Presidents Gary Burchett and Martin Peters, and Vice President and Dean of Faculty, John Irvine. Gary delivered a superb tribute to Ernie during the service. Ernie's son, Fred Fields, in a wonderful summary of his father's life, gave a sentimental, moving, loving and factual account of The Amazing Ernie Fields.
The church was filled with Ernie's family and friends and the service was wonderful. Afterwards Maxine Fields graciously hosted family and friends at the Fields' home in Morristown, New Jersey.
While it was a sad journey for the Tennessee contingent, it was also to celebrate the life of a dedicated and loyal friend and a wonderful human being - -Ernest W. Fields.
Ernie Fields loved his alma mater, Lincoln Memorial University. He served on its Board of Trustees for many years and was tireless in his efforts to raise funds for the University. He was particularly interested in LMU's school of nursing. He was the driving force for a new facility for the school. Ernie really was the Amazing Ernie Fields.
