He married Dorothy Louise Rogers at Binghamton, Broome County, NY, on 10 April 1923.6 Arthur Howard Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1930 at Beverly Hills, Los Angeles County, CA, USA. The census lists the family as: Arthur H. Hotchkin, 28 (1902), married at age 22, born NY, parents born NY, accountant for loans & mortgage; wfe Dorothy R., 29 (1900), married at age 20, born NY parnets born NY; son Howard R., 3 4/12 (1926), born CA; son Thomas B., 1 11/12 (1928), born CA.. He resided at Millbrae, San Mateo County, CA, USA, in 1991. He died on 13 September 2000 at Culver City, Los Angeles County, CA, USA, at age 99.2

     According to the Cornell and Princeton Directories, Arthur was a graduate of Princeton University in 1922.
     Personal letter addressed to the Compiler from Ruth Clapper, dated April 15, 1991, gives childrens names and addresses.

Rodney Bartoo Hotchkin1

     Rodney Bartoo Hotchkin was born on 20 August 1903 at Binghamton, Broome County, NY, USA.2,3,4,5 He was the son of Charles Fenton Hotchkin and Cora Grace Bartoo. He married Mary Jane Kramer at Binghamton, Broome County, NY, on 22 October 1938.6 Rodney Bartoo Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1940 at Chenango Forks Rd, Greene, Chenango County, NY, USA. The census lists the family as: Harry F Kramer, Head, age 61 born 1879 in PA, newspaper printer, same house in 1935; wife Edna M., age 60 born 1880 in MO; son-in-law Rodney Hotchkin, age 35 born 1905 in NY, real estate salesman; dau Mary Jane, age 31 born 1909 in NY.. He resided at Norwich, Chenango County, NY, USA, in 1984. He died in June 1984 at Chenango Forks, Broome County, NY, USA, at age 80.7 He was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, at Greene, Chenango County, NY, USA.

     Rodney's obituary in the Binghamton Press gives considerable information about him. It says that he lived on a farm in Chenango Forks at the time of death. He was a graduate of Binghamton Central High in 1920 and the Wharton School of Economics, Univ. of Pennsylvania. He worked many years as a Realtor and 15 years as an Industrial Engineer with Modern Design of Vestal. The Binghamton City Directories show him as a partner with his father in Hotchkin & Sons. Rodney was a life member of the Chennago Forks Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Norwick. His funeral arrangements were made by Fahy Funeral Home of Norwick. At the time of his death, his son was living in Norwich, his daughter in Binghamton, his brothers in Binghamton and Los Angeles. A few years after Rodney died, his wife Mary Jane moved to Florida to live with her son. She is now in a retirement home in Vestal, NY.

This differs by one day from birth date given at WWI Registration.1 He was the son of Charles Fenton Hotchkin and Cora Grace Bartoo. Charles Durwood Hotchkin registered for the World War I Draft on 12 September 1918 while living at Binghamton, Broome County, NY, USA. The registration card gave additional information on him: "He gives his complete name Charles Durwood Hotchkin. Age 19, born12 Dec 1918. He is a real estate agent working for his father Charles F. Hotchkin at 71 Court St, Binghamton. His gives his nearest relative as father, Charles F. Hotchkin, 92 Grand Blvd.". He died on 7 December 1918 at France at age 20. Killed in France during WWI..2 He was buried at Floral Park Cemetery, at Johnson City, Broome County, NY, USA. Center Circle, Sec J, Lot 3.

     The 1917 Binghamton City Directory shows C. Durwood as a clerk and residing with his parents at 72 Grand Blvd. He was killed in France during World War I.

WWI Military Service record gives date of birth as ( May 1897 and place as Binghamton, NY.2,3,4 He was the son of Charles Fenton Hotchkin and Cora Grace Bartoo. Donald Curtis Hotchkin registered for the World War I Draft on 5 June 1918 while living at Binghamton, Broome County, NY, USA. The registration card gave additional information on him: "He gives his name as Donald C. Hotchkin and birth in Binghamton, NY on 9 May 1897. He is a student at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY. He gives his nearest relative as father Charles F. Hotchkin.". He married Bertha Marie Evens at Binghamton, Broome County, NY, on 30 June 1920.5,4 Donald Curtis Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1930 at Binghamton, Broome County, NY. The census lists the family as: Donald C. Hotchkin, 33 (1896), married at 23, born NY, parents born NY, real estate; wife Marie E. 34 (1895), married at 24, born NY, parents born NY, no occupation; daughter Ruth E. 3 4/12 (1926), born NY.. He resided at Binghamton, Broome County, NY, in 1984. He died on 13 March 1990 at Johnson City, Broome County, NY, USA, at age 92.1,6 He was buried on 15 March 1990 at Floral Park Cemetery, at Johnson City, Broome County, NY, USA. Center Circle, Sec J, Lot 3.

     Donald qualified himself as an expert appraiser for his fathers estate property by saying, "I reside at 165 Leroy St., Binghamton, am a licensed Real Estate Broker with offices at 73 State St and have worked 30 years in the business." The Binghamton City Directories show Donald as a partner of his fathers in Hotchkin & Sons. Donald and his wife Marie (Bertha) lived at 165 Leroy Street, Binghamton, NY, until they sold their house in 1987 and moved to Hilltop Manor in Johnson City. All of the city directories refer to her as Marie and not Bertha. Donald was in the Skilled Nursing Unit and Marie in the Retirement Unit until their deaths in 1990; which occurred very close together.

Catherine (Kate) May Hotchkin1

     Catherine (Kate) May Hotchkin was born on 23 May 1873 at Schenevus, Otsego County, NY, USA. The 1900 census gives a birth of May 1873, age 27, called Catherine.2,3 She was the daughter of William Samuel Hotchkin and Celida Amanda Wright. Catherine (Kate) May Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1930 at Daytona Beach, Volusia County, FL, USA. The census lists the family as: Kate M. Hotchkins, 56 (1873), single, born NY, parents born NY, music teacher.. She died on 23 December 1946 at Daytona Beach, Volusia County, FL, at age 73.4,5,6 She was buried at Schenevus Cemetery, at Schenevus, Otsego County, NY, USA.

     Kate received $2,000 plus one-half interest in the 28 Winding Rd. property from her mothers estate. The 1900 census called her Catherine. Bible records say that she never married.

Celida Amanda Wright

     Celida Amanda Wright was born on 12 July 1846 at Westford, Otsego County, NY, USA.1,2,3 She was the daughter of Milton Wright and Lovisa Winans. She married William Samuel Hotchkin at Westford, Otsego County, NY, on 24 December 1868.4,1,5,2,3 Celida Amanda Wright appeared on the census of 1900 at Binghamton, Broome County, NY, USA. The census lists the family as: Hotchkin, Celida, age 54, b 7-1845, widow, 4 children, 4 living; dau Catherine, age 27, b 5-1873 in NY, single, musician and clerk; dau Helen, age 22, b 1-1878 in NY, single, musician; and boarder Horace Wright, age 31, b 11-1868 in NY, widow, Single, plumber. Horace must be related to Celinda.. She died on 27 June 1910 at Binghamton, Broome County, NY, at age 63.1,6 She was buried at Schenevus Cemetery, at Schenevus, Otsego County, NY, USA.

     Much information is in the Civil War widows pension file of Celida A. Wright Hotchkin. On 6 Jul 1908 she filed a statement that William died on 8 Apr 1899 at Binghamton, NY and that they were married at Westford, Otsego Co., NY on 24 Dec 1868. Rev. Albert Martin, a Baptist Minister, married them at her father, Milton Wright, home. She said that neither of them had been previously married and that they had four children, all of who were now living. Celida’s brother William E. Wright confirms the information and dates in his Statement. He said that he was a boarder at the 101 Main Street family home. Elizabeth Gurney added a statement to the file saying that she had known William since he was a child and that he was a clerk in her husbands store for several years and boarded with her family. Mrs. Gurney says that Celida was brought up and lived in Westford, NY before her marriage and was a schoolteacher in the Schenevus public schools. She says that William and Celida resided in Schenevus until about 1888 when they moved to Binghamton.
     At the 1900 census Celida was living in the family home at 101 Main St., Binghamton, NY with her daughter Catherine and Helen and brother Horace Wright. Lina Belle was not with them. Note that neither daughter was called by the names generally used by the family.
     Her Will gives her death date and leaves $100 each to her grandsons Donald L. and Rodney B. of Binghamton and Arthur Howard of Los Angeles all children of Charles F. Hotchkin. It also leaves $100 to grandson Wildred L. Davis, son of Lina B. Davis and to Celida A. Howard daughter of Nellie L. Howard. Kate M. Hotchkin was given $2,000. The premises at 28 Winding Road was left equally to children Kate, Lina and Charles.

     Mary (Polly) Spencer was born on 22 August 1776 at CT, USA.1,2 She was the daughter of Phineas Spencer and Anna Elizabeth Holland. She married Samuel Hodgkin at Maryland, Otsego County, NY, USA, on 20 January 1804.3,1,2 Mary (Polly) Spencer died on 28 September 1806 at Maryland, Otsego County, NY, at age 30.1

     Ashley Hotchkin's book, A Concise History of the Town of Maryland, says that his father's marriage to Mary (Polly) Spencer, in January 1804, was the first recorded marriage in the Town of Maryland.4

Mary West

     Mary was born at Guilford, New Haven County, CT, USA, on 22 March 1708/9. She was the daughter of Christopher West and Elizabeth Hodgkin.

     Mary's uncle John Hodgkin left Mary a parcel of land according to the probate of his Will, 5 August, 1727. Her married name is given in the documents but it is not at all clear, might be Woflonby.
