     Helen May Cross was born on 6 February 1902 at Liberty, Sullivan County, NY, USA.4 She was the daughter of Eugene Cross and Cassine May Bonnell. She married Edmond Brooke (E. B.) Brown at Liberty, Sullivan County, NY, on 8 November 1929. Their were married at her parents home by Rev. Joseph W. Chasey.. Helen May Cross died in July 1991 at Salisbury, Litchfield County, CT, USA, at age 89.5

     Helen spent her early years in Neversink, graduated from Liberty High School, and from Barnard College in 1924. She taught school in Dover Plains, NY, Walden, NY and New Jersey before her marriage to E. B. Brown. In 1929 she became Principal of the high school at Mountaindale, NY, a position that she held until 1940. At that time, she quite full time teaching and served as a substitute teacher in the Liberty Public Schools. She was an officer in the Order of Eastern Star, President of the Liberty Garden Club, the first president of the Liberty Parent-Teachers Association, and a founder and committee person of the Liberty Youth Activities Council.6,7,8
