The apple farm was purchased from his dad who got it from his dad sho got it from his sister Aunt Jennie (1840- 1921) .Sanford's great grandfather Royal Witherell had bought it in 1865 from the estate of his own cousin Royal Turrill.

He married Lena Webb in 1906 at Emmet County, MI, USA. Walter H. Witherell appeared on the census of 1930 at Little Traverse, Emmet County, MI, USA. The census lists the family as: Walter H. Witherell, 60, married at 42, born NY, parents born NY, farm labor; wife M. Lena, 47, married at 24, born NY, parents born NY. Living just a few farms from Edgar A. Smith.. The Compiler recently found a note in his mother's handwriting, on the back of an envelope and stuck in a Witherell genealogical history. This note said that Walter Witherell bought 80 acres in Section 28, Pleasant View for $240.00 and Charles Witherell bougnt 40 acres in Section 15 for $160.00.This would place them in Emmet County, MI at that time, but unfortunely my mother's note had no date for the purchase.
