Robert Bruce Murray

M, (1 July 1840 - 25 December 1925)
Robert Bruce Murray was born on 1 July 1840 at Franklin County, OH, USA. He was the son of Alexander Murray and Evalena Unknown. Robert Bruce Murray died on 25 December 1925 at Palo, Linn County, IA, USA, at age 85. Robert Bruce Murray was born on July 29, 1840 in Franklin County, Ohio. There he grew to manhood. At the age of 21 years he responded to the call of president Lincoln for 300,000 volunteers. He enlisted for three years in Company G, 46th Ohio Infantry. He was honorably discharged at the expiration of this period, but immediately re-enlisted for the remainder of the war. Mr. Murray took part in twenty-seven battles and was with Sherman in his march to the sea. He was mustered out of service at the conclusion of the war at Louisville, Ky. At this time he decided to see his brother who lived in Iowa (Alexander) and came to Cedar Rapids. He then moved to Palo and made his home finally at the place where he died about five miles northwest of Palo in Lewis Bottom Community. He was married to Serepta McClintock on January 16, 1868. To this union were born eight children. Two died in infancy and the others with his wife mourn his death. The children are John C. and Edna, at home. Mrs. A.J. Hoglan of Center Point, Mrs. Ed Penrose of Backus, Minn., Mrs. Will Voris of Shellsburg and Mrs. J. H. McNiel of Cedar Rapids. He confessed his faith in God and accepted Christ as his Savior over thirty years ago. He has been a staunch and loyal member of the Methodist Episcopal church during these years and was united with the great church triumphant in death which came to him at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 27 days on December 25, 1925. Thus ends the earthly career of another of our great patriots of the Civil War. Thus has he answered the summons of the Great Captain of our faith. His warfare ended, he rests in peace.
