     At the 1900 Census, Mary was living with her mother, brother Rick and a Jim Kennedy, identified as a step brother, who was born March, 1870 in IL. At the 1920 census she is living at 4529 Hazel St., Chicago, age 61 with 3 roomers. Her obituary says that she died in Indiana, was a Chicago Public School teacher and a life long resident of Chicago.

     The Early Settlers of NY, has a reference to Mary ( Mrs Pierson), North Baptist Church, Troy, NY. This references gives a baptism date of 1855. Her marriage according to the Troy Whig occured in 1856.⁴

     The children were adopted by Donald Bushong and took his name. Her son says that she was educated at Western Michigan University and was a school teacher.

     The Compiler and his wife paid Mary Ellen a visit and got a lot of family information. Unfortunely, I informed her that her father had a first marriage, a fact that she said her father had always denied.

Matthias Button (1730-77) served as private in Capt. Jonathan Brewster's company, Connecticut troops. He was born in Plainfield; died in Preston, Conn.
Samuel Terry served as private in Captain Mead's company, Col. Henry Luddington's 7th regiment, Dutchess County militia. He was born in Fredericktown; died, 1813, in Carmel, N. Y.
John Dean served as private in Captain Baker's company, Colonel Luddington's 7th regiment, Dutchess County, New York militia. He was born in Connecticut; died in Pulteney, N. Y.
Daniel Bellows enlisted, 1775, and served as private in the 6th regiment under Colonel Parsons. He was born, 1723, in Southboro. Mass.

     Mary was a graduate of the Franklin Academy and the Genesee Normal School, class of 1906, and studied at NYU. She was the original collector of much of the information on the Prattsburg families. Mary was an active member of the DAR and performed considerable genealogical research. She was Secretary of the NY State Officers Club DAR.
     She taught school in Millerton, NY; North Tonawanda, NY; Nutley, NJ; Bloomfield, NJ; Rochester, NY; and in Prattsburg in her later years. She was a Director of the Prattsburg State Bank and Chairman of the Board for the Bath National Bank, and an elder and trustee of the Prattsburg Presbyterian Church. The Department of History, Presbyterian Church has a file of letters from William S. Cornwell to Mrs W. Harvey Hoag that are rather interesting from a genealogical viewpoint and are copied here as exhibits.

     Mary Ivel Hotchkin was born on 10 October 1907 at Tecumseh, Johnson County, NE, USA.^1,2,3 She was the daughter of William Smith (Will) Hotchkin and Emma Lucinda Kinman. She married Jerry Kenneth Speakman at Sturgis, Meade County, SD, USA, on 23 May 1927. Marriage Index refers to her as Irel Hotchkin..⁴ Mary Ivel Hotchkin and Jerry Kenneth Speakman were divorced after 1930 at Detroit, Wayne County, MI, USA. Still married at the 1930 Census. She married Belford L. Skinner after 1930. Mary Ivel Hotchkin died on 21 December 1988 at Quartzsite, La Paz County, AZ, USA, at age 81. Her daughter Connie furnished this death date..³ She was buried at Quartzsite (Hi Jolly) Cemetery, at Quartzsite, La Paz County, AZ, USA, . Prominent as the burial place of Hi Jolly the camel trainer who brought 30 camels to the desert for packing..

     Information on Mary Ivel is from her brother George and notes of his mothers. Junella Denslow Reep says that her birth was 1908. Mary Ivel's adopted daughter Connie confirms her birth on 10 October 1907 and says that it occurred in Central City, not Tecumsch, NE. Connie gives her death as 1989, not 1988.
     She is buried in a desert cemetery, at Quartzsite, AZ, near the tomb of Hi Jolly the famous Camel Herder, hired by the US Army to handle a Camel experiment on the desert. A simple hand painted cement block with a heart painted on it saying, "Beloved by children and grandchildren," serves as the grave marker for her and Belford. This monument gives her death date of 21 December 1988. The gravestone also gives her name as Iver. It is interesting how the Compiler and his wife Catherine found this grave. We enjoy the desert during the winter and like to take our motorhome out to the Quartzsite area especially around the first week of February when they have the worlds largest swap meet. This cemetery being a interesting one, we decided to investigate the graves, and there was a member of the family.
     It is believed that Mary Ivel had other marriages as a marriage is recorded in Meade Co. records showing a marriage Iva Hotchkin, age 19 to Kenneth Speakman, age 24, both of Sturgis, married 23 May 1927. Her mother's obituary refers to a daughter, Mrs Iva West of Deadwood, SD.

     Mary Jane Hotchkin was born on 13 February 1866 at Waterville, Oneida County, NY, USA. Date and location from Passport Application. Age 32 at death according to obituary.¹ She was the daughter of Mark Caldwell (M. C.) Hotchkin and Jennette M. Hovey. She married Gardiner Everett Angier at St Joseph, Berrien County, MI, USA, on 5 January 1898. They were married by James Hamilton MG..^2,3 Mary Jane Hotchkin died on 9 January 1899 at Brooklyn, Kings County, NY, USA, at age 32.^4,5 She was buried at Waterville Cemetery, at Waterville, Oneida County, NY, USA, .⁶

     Mary J. is listed in a guardian document filed by her mother, dated 26 February 1877 in the town of Sangerfield, NY. Her mother says that Mary will be eleven years of age the following February 13th. Jennett gives her name as Walker, so she must have remarried after her husband’s death. The Michigan Marriage Records (1889, pg 303) give the marriage of Mary and G. E. Augier and says that her parents were M. C. Hotchkin and Janette Hovey; and she had not been married before but G. E. had been married once before. The witnesses were her brothers R. H. and John C. Hotchkin. Mary J., her husband G.E., and their son Mark C. are buried in the Eli Hotchkin family plot. After Mary's death in 1899, her Will granted property to sister Kate J., and nephews Dana and Allen H., sons of brothers Robert H. and John C. Hotchkin. This property was deeded on 2 June 1899, Libr 522, pg 112.

     Mary Jean Hotchkin died on 4 April 1961 at Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, MI, USA.¹ She was born on 4 April 1961 at Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, MI. She was the daughter of Eugene George Hotchkin and Barbara Jean Fadness. Mary Jean Hotchkin was buried at Riverside Cemetery, at Plymouth, Wayne County, MI, USA, .

     Mary Lloyd Hotchkin was born on 31 January 1907 at Durant, Bryan County, OK, USA.² She was the daughter of Ebenezer Hotchkin DD and Maria Emaline Moore. She resided at Dallas, Dallas County, TX, USA, in 1915. She married Charles Corry Stephenson Sr. at Durant, Bryan County, OK, on 6 March 1930.³ She resided at Antlers, Pushmataha County, OK, USA, in 1958. Mary Lloyd Hotchkin died on 16 April 1974 at Antlers, Pushmataha County, OK, at age 67.¹ She was buried at Antlers City Cemetery, at Antlers, Pushmataha County, OK, USA, .¹

     Mary Lloyd lived in Dallas for a while because she is found in the 1915 Dallas City Directory as a checker with the Dallas Transfer Co. She and Corry Stephenson were married by Rev R.R. Craig of the Durant Presbyterian Church with her mother and sister Lucy as witnessess.

     Mary Lorette Hotchkin was born on 26 January 1914 at Troy, Rensselaer County, NY, USA.¹ She was the daughter of George Mead Hotchkin and Mary Lorette Turner. She resided at Troy, Rensselaer County, NY, in 1936. She married Wesley C. Toussaint at Cohoes, Albany County, NY, USA, on 21 August 1936. They were married by Harvey L. Desautels, RC clergyman and the wedding was witnessed by Jean (sister Jeanette) Hotchkin & Joe E. Orlyk..² Mary Lorette Hotchkin died on 24 December 1968 at Johnstown, Fulton County, NY, USA, at age 54.³ She was buried at Saint Agnes Cemetery, at Menands, Albany County, NY, USA, .

     The witnesses to her wedding were her sister Jean and Joseph E. Orlyk Jr. They were married by Rev. Harvey L. Desautils, RC Clergyman.

     Mary Louise Hotchkin is the daughter of Alexander Semple Hotchkin and Jennie F. Russell. She married Bruce Vern Wood at Oakland, Alameda County, CA, USA, on 31 December 1930.¹

     Mary Lucille Hotchkin was born on 21 April 1908 at IA, USA.¹ She was the daughter of James Alfred Hotchkin and Mary Frances Duggan. She married Floyd Robert Ashing at IA. Mary Lucille Hotchkin died on 13 April 1996 at Des Moines, Polk County, IA, USA, at age 87.¹

     Mary Lucretia Hotchkin was born on 18 August 1832 at Richmond, Berkshire County, MA, USA. She was the daughter of John Hotchkin Rev. and Fanny Gale. She was baptized at Lenox, Berkshire County, MA, USA, on 21 April 1833.¹ Mary Lucretia Hotchkin was graduated in 1845 from Lenox Academy, Lenox, Berkshire County, MA, USA. Mary was a student in the class of 1845-6 at the Lenox Academy of which her father Rev John Hotchkin was Principal. Her address at that time was listed as Lenox. She studied in the Latin language. She died on 9 November 1903 at Lenox, Berkshire County, MA, at age 71. She was buried at Church on the Hill Cemetery, at Lenox, Berkshire County, MA, USA, . Gravestone says, "Mary L. Hotchkin, born August 18 1832; died November 9 1903.".

     Her birth date is from the 1850 census of Lenox, Berkshire Co., MA and her gravestone. The Christening comes from Little Church on the Hill records. An entry in George Walker's Diary, held by the Hotchkin Public Library, Lenox; shows an entry: Fanny Hotchkin, June 23, 1852 and Mary Hotchkin, June 19, 1852. We don't know what these dates refer to, as we are quite sure of their deaths. She is buried with her parents and brother at the Little Church on the Hill, Lenox, MA.

     Mary Patricia Hotchkin is the daughter of Charles Towne Hotchkin and Mary Amelia DeHart. She married James Miller Pierce on 1 January 1950.

     Mary Philena Hotchkin was born on 29 February 1880 at Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, USA. She was the daughter of Charles Eugene Hotchkin Rev. and Eleanor Copeland. Mary Philena Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1910 at El Paso County, CO, USA. The census lists the family as: Mary P. Hotchkin, 30 (1879), Ind Terr, parents born Ind Terr., a nurse at the Poor Farm.. She married Arthur Ralph Brose at San Francisco, San Francisco County, CA, USA, on 26 July 1915.      Mary Rebecca Hotchkin was born on 19 September 1837 at Washtenaw County, MI, USA.¹ She was the daughter of Augustine Hall Hotchkin and Sarah Aulls. She married Thomas Aulls Wilcox on 4 October 1859.¹ Mary Rebecca Hotchkin died in 1909 at Elkhart, Elkhart County, IN, USA.

     Mary Rebecca is listed in the 1840 Census, Washtenaw Co., MI and in Family History Capers, "Vol 8, #3 which gives her birth but no dates. This document says that she and her husband resided in Elkhart, IN. Her birth and death dates are given in her daughters DAR application. The Aulls Genealogy gives death date as 22 September 1916.¹

     Mary Rose (Mamie) Hotchkin was born on 10 July 1875 at Charlotte Village, Niagara County, NY, USA. Some records say 1876. She was the daughter of Noah Frank Hotchkin and Evilena Ann Granville. She married Frank Eugene Denslow at Benton Harbor, Berrien County, MI, USA, on 17 June 1896. His obituary gives the year as 1895..^1,2 Mary Rose (Mamie) Hotchkin died on 9 September 1946 at Benton Harbor, Berrien County, MI, at age 71. She was buried on 12 September 1946 at Crystal Springs Cemetery, at Benton Harbor, Berrien County, MI, USA, .

     The 1880 census of Charlottesville, Newfane Twp., Niagara Co., NY finds her with her parents. Mary Rose died of blood clots and pneumonia according to the records and Frank Eugene died of diabetes and heart trouble.
     Mary Rose and Eugene were members of the First Baptist Church of Benton Harbor, MI (member #244) by transfer from Van Wert, OH on 17 August 1905. Church records show her death on 10 September 1946. A document in possession of the Compiler, called Register of Births and looks like it might have been copied from a bible or other similar log; gives her birth year as 1876. Franks occupations were as a flour miller and florist. She is mentioned as alive and living in Benton Harbor, MI in the obituary of her brother Frank E. Hotchkin.

     Mary Teresa Hotchkin is the daughter of Thomas Clement Hotchkin and Lillian Mary Platt. She married Fred A. Tovani at Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, CA, USA, on 20 February 1949.¹

     Maryann Hotchkin is the daughter of Hugh John Hotchkin and Anna Unknown. Maryann Hotchkin married John Kerry Columb on 30 April 1971 at Palm Beach County, FL, USA.¹ Maryann Hotchkin and John Kerry Columb were divorced on 25 September 1989 at FL, USA.²

     The 1880 census finds her with her parents in Newfane, NY and gives her age as 9. The Compiler found her grave in North Ridge Cemetery, which gives her death date, age at death and her parents. She is also the Matilda H. Hotchkin whose birth was announced in the Lockport Daily Journal and death in LDJ "Matilda H. Hotchkin, the 11 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs J. H. Hotchkin, of Coomer Rd., died last night at their residence."²

     Matthew William Hotchkin is the son of Mark C. Hotchkin and Pamela Buchheim.
