     The History of Linn County, IA says that in June 1863 J. K. Hotchkin built the second building in town, a two-story frame house and store on Green Street. He soon opened a store in the building and received the Postmaster appointment, which he still retained in 1878. J.K. Their grand daughter Caralyn Hotchkin Welsh says that she remembered hugh Thanksgiving Day dinners at their home on Coomer Rd in Newfane, NY. She says that they were jolly people, especially Ida, and they had many good friends who joined them for dinner and cards. Caralyn remembers family members bringing food to these dinners and the many desserts of pie, cakes and jello.

Warner, a clerk, at 100 State St, and boarding at 16 Allen St. At the 1880 Census, James and wife Marietta are living with Marietta's parents, the Winant's. At the time of his father’s death, James lived at 102 West 4th St, Bergen Point, NJ. The 1920 census of Bergen Point has he and his wife Maretta, living with her sister, Catherine Saunders; James is listed as age 73, Marietta, age 69 and Catherine, age 51, Catherine was born in Ireland.

All of the information on this family comes from the Brown book, who says that Peggy Sutherland Morgan supplied him the information. Ferris was a plasterer and a farmer wirh 50 acres of land.²

It was said that Harry Collins hair turned white on the trip and Nettie's had streaks of white. Mrs Collins said, "it is just awful to even think about it." She said that they lived in a barracks at Rampart, Alaska and the temperature was that cold like evryone presumed.¹ She was the daughter of Albert Leet Hotchkin Sr. and Delia M. Smith.
