     Notes of Ebenezer Jr. refers to Hettie as a teacher and Dean of Women at the State Teachers College. Volume II, The History of the State of Oklahoma, dated 1909, says that she is a missionary in Utah and wife of Rev. McIntire of the Presbyterian Church of Salt Lake.²

No positive proof that he is son of Robert and Florence. The 1930 census gives more information on him with a wife, son and mother-in-law.

     Howard Francis Hotchkin was born on 1 July 1917 at Denville, Morris County, NJ, USA.² He was the son of Frank Elmer Hotchkin and Adaline Evelyn Coddington. He married Kathryn (Katie) Sadlon at Asbury, Gloucester County, NJ, USA, on 20 March 1939. Howard Francis Hotchkin died on 2 October 1990 at NJ, USA, at age 73.²

     A newspaper article, published in the Washington, NJ, Star-Gazette for 5 April 1990 describes Howard as a radio genius and a man who sold and repaired thousands of television sets. It says that Howard was a native of Denville, NJ whose family moved to Glen Gardner in 1922. He attended High Bridge High School for three months but was forced to quit and go to work because his father died. He took a correspondence course from the National Radio Institute in Wash., DC., which took 2 years and cost $6.00 a month. He remembered that the Newark News carried a full page advertisement showing how to build a crystal radio set and all you had to do was send for the kit. He and his brother, Elmer, sent for the kit and built their first radio in 1926 or 1927. During the great depression, Howard was in the CCC's. Later he opened a radio store in High Bridge and sold Philco, RCA, Commodores radios and refrigerators. During World War II he worked in the iron mine at Mine Hill as an electrician and at General Motors on aircraft radios. After the war, he and his wife Kate opened a small television store on Cornish Street. For a few decades after that, Howard was known by thousands of people around Washington as the only man who could really fix a television set. Retired, he now works in the garden at his mountain home on Mine Hill Road. For a time, he grew his own tobacco and made his own cigars with a machine that he built.³

     The 1900 census has Howard with his parents, at home on Coomer Rd., Newfane, NY. Lenora Bush Hotchkin said in a letter November 1989 that he was deceased. A letter from his niece, Nancy Valenti gives the year of his death. Records of the United Methodist Church of Newfane show that he became a member on 15 December 1915 in the class of E.E. Jones. Howard is buried in Corwin Cemetery with his brother and sister. According to Nancy Valenti and the records, Howard never married.

Howard Roger Hotchkin enlsted on 15 January 1945 while living at Los Angeles County, CA, USA. His enlistment notes said: " Howard R. Hotchkin, born 1919, native of California, enlisted at Ft Macarthur, San Pedro, CA, Infantry branch, Private, enlisted for duration, enlisted reserve or medical Administrative staff, 1 year of college, single no dependents, height 00, weight 00.". He married Barbara Fay Tlacil at CA, USA, in 1950. Howard Roger Hotchkin and Barbara Fay Tlacil were divorced in November 1970 at Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, CA, USA.³ He married Lorraine B. Obituary says that he was born Nov 11, 1926 in Beverly Hills, CA and died June 20 2006 in Oceanside, CA of cancer and abdominal aneurysm. He served in US Army during World War II. He received an Engineering Degree at the University of California, Berkeley in 1949.
     He retired after 43 years with Lockheed Aircraft. He enjoyed deep sea fishing and was a SCUBA diver. He built remote moble air craft and was an Eagle Scout.
     He was a member of the Royal Arch Masons and lodge treasurer for the Oceanside Elks Lodge #1561.
     He is survived by his wife of 4 years, Maxine Guest Hotchkin: daughter Phyllis Weintraub of Israel; stepson and stepdaughter Thomas and Maria Guest of Highlands Ranch, CO; stepdaughter Karen Guest of Arlington, TX; brothers David Hotchkin of Milbrea, CA and Thomas Hotchkin of Culver City, CA; and four grandchildren. His son Frank Roger Hotchkin preceded him in death..⁶

     A Deed on file in Litchfield Co., CT shows Shoger Olmstead of New Hanford granting to Hubbard Hochkin of Barkhamsted, a parcel of land in Barkhamsted. The Deed was dated 23 May 1798. During the years 1801 and 1802 he received several properties from William Little and in 1803 and 1808 Asahel Little and Alfred Little all in Barkhamsted granted him properties. A transaction in 1816 gives his address as Barkhamsted while one in 1818 gives his address as Manlius, Onondaga Co., NY.
     Records located at the Onondaga Historical Association show this family’s burial in the DeWitt Messina Springs Cemetery. The Compiler and his wife Cathy visited Messina Springs Cemetery in 1992; located on James Street between Syracuse and DeWitt. The cemetery is in very bad condition, a fence was put around it much too late. No stones are left for Hubbard and Alathea, but there are stones for William, his wife Hannah and Jerusha, and her husband James Alvord.
     The 1830 census show one male child missing from our list, born 1815 to 1820, the 1840 census show 2 male children missing, one born 1820 to 1825 and one born 1830 to 1835.

     Family records and his daughter, Betty Judd furnished the information on Hubert. Hubert was an insurance salesman and had an office on the main street of Benson, AZ for many years. He left Michigan and went to Arizona because his wife Clarabelle had tuberculosis of the lungs. Hubert adopted his wife's daughter, Eleanor May, by her first marriage to Boomer. His memory card shows his birth as December 30 1906 and his funeral at Benson Mortuary, Benson, AZ. Social Security records confirm his birth and death dates and locations.

Hugh Jerome Hotchkin appeared on the census of 1900 at Chicago, Cook County, IL, USA. The census lists the family as: Hotchkin, Hugh J, age 13, born 11-1886 in SD..      Hugh M. and Raymond Hotchkin supplied information on Hugh J. and said that this uncle was a bachelor school teacher who boarded with his sister Hanna Thomas after his retirement. The 1904 through the 1910 city directories show Hugh as a book binder, living with his parents and brother at 5145 S. Winchester. The 1928 Polk Directory of Chicago finds him living at 5829 Artesian, Chicago and says that he is employed at Tilden Technical High School. He moved to California, after retirement, lived with his sister and her husband and died in Santa Ana, Orange Co., CA. Hugh Miller Hotchkin calls him, "the scholar of the family".

     Hugh John Hotchkin was born on 28 December 1915 at Chicago, Cook County, IL, USA. Age 5 at the 1920 census.¹ He was the son of John Francis (Jack) Hotchkin and Marie A. Schmidt. Hugh John Hotchkin married Anna Unknown circa 1940 at IL, USA. Hugh John Hotchkin enlsted on 27 June 1942 while living at Chicago, Cook County, IL. His enlistment notes said: " Hugh J. Hotchkin, native of Illinois, enlisted in Cook County, IL, no branch, Private, enlisted for the duration, 4 years of high school, married, height 66, weight 163. His birth year is given as 1914 which differs from compilers records.". He died on 16 July 1954 at Palm Beach, Palm Beach County, FL, USA, at age 38.      Hugh died of Polio in 1953 according to his brother Ray. His newspaper obituary gives a 1954 date and says that they had moved to Florida the previous October.

     Hugh Miller Hotchkin Jr. is the son of Hugh Miller Hotchkin Sr. and Thelma Avonelle Simpson. He married Deanna Unknown at MI, USA, in August 1978. Western Michigan Newspapers.

     Hugh Miller Hotchkin Sr. was born on 17 August 1908 at Chicago, Cook County, IL, USA.^1,2 He was the son of William Miller Hotchkin and Elfrieda Schick. He married Thelma Avonelle Simpson at Fremont, Newaygo County, MI, USA, in 1946. Hugh Miller Hotchkin Sr. was a General Contractor in 1969 at Mansfield, Richland County, OH, USA, A US News article says that he moved his Jacobs Construction crew on site about a year ago and will finish the Mall on time. Article describes him as a 40-year veteran of the construction business who got his start carrying beer to the bricklayers in his native Chicago. "He is the type of man you would expect to be in charge, direct without being curt, factual as the tools of his trade, discerning yet respectful of the men who are turning blueprints into bricks."³ Hugh died on 29 May 1994 at Sarasota, Sarasota County, FL, USA, at age 85. Death Cert #65653.⁴

     Hugh supplied enough information on his branch of the family to direct a search to Eber Hall Hotchkin. Hugh says that he and his wife raised their family in Jackson, MI where the Compiler was born. Hugh has been a builder and designer and did a large project in Porto Rico in the 1970's.
     Hugh wrote a letter to the Compiler with a few general comments of his knowledge of the family. "They were of average size, with a fair to ruddy complexion, sandy hair, strong facial characterictics, deep set eyes, prominent cheek bones and high foreheads. They were tradesmen, carpenters, farmers, printers, students and teachers; of strong character. I know of no wrong doing or breaking of the law. Righteous in all dealings and surprisingly without deep religious beliefs." Hugh says that he has a son completing his college work at the Robert Jones University, Greenfield, SC; but he didn't says which son.

     Ichabob D. (Ishabeb) Hotchkin was born on 2 March 1834 at Liberty, Sullivan County, NY, USA. He was the son of Joshua Francis (James) Hotchkin and Lydia Novill Grant. Ichabob died before 1840 at Liberty, Sullivan County, NY. He was not present at the 1840 census..

     The Compiler can not find this person in any Hotchkin census and she may be a Hotchkiss. The only evidence is her name in her obituary where she is called Irene C. Hotchkin Wood.

She married William Alexander Devereux in 1923. According to the 1930 census she was 19 and he 24 at marriage..
