     Harry T. Merriam Hotchkin was born on 2 April 1894 at Chicago, Cook County, IL, USA.^1,2,3 He was the son of Benjamin Lincoln Hotchkin Dr. and Mary Lydia Windes. Harry T. Merriam Hotchkin registered for the World War I Draft on 1 June 1917 while living at Chicago, Cook County, IL, USA. The registration card gave additional information on him: "Harry Hotchkin, born 2 Apr 1894 in Chicago, IL. Just graduated from MIchigan College of Mines in Houghton, MI. Member of ROTC and presently at Ft Sheriden, IL in engineering training camp.". He appeared on the census of 1920 at Chicago, Cook County, IL, USA. The census lists the family as: Hotchkin, H. T., age 35, born I, parents birth unk; Mrs H. T., age 31, born I, parents birth unk; living with Lester S. Noble.. He died on 2 October 1974 at Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, CA, USA, at age 80.^4,5,3 He was buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, at Frankfort, Will County, IL, USA, .

     At the 1910 census he is living away from his parents with his brother Merritt W., sister Helen M., and aunt Dora. Chicago Birth Records #6236 show his birth on 2 April 1894 To Lillie and Benjamin Hotchkin as her 2nd child. Birth records use M. as initial. Social Security records also gives his birth as 2 April 1894 and death in October 1974. Texas is given as the location that he first received a SS card and CA as location of his death benefits. His death certificate gives his parents names, his occupation as a Geologist, and says that he never married.
     The 1920 census; however, has a Mrs. H. .T. Hotchkin so this may be the wrong party.
Harry was Republican Party Executive in San Antonio, TX and ran for an office in 1940. He originally supported Taft in the 1940 primary elcection and switched at the last moment to Stassen.
     He was also very active in oil well drilling and production in Texas and wrote stories about this work.

     We know that Harvey was still alive in August 1914 because he was referenced in his brothers probated Will and was living in Eaton Rapids, Eaton Co., MI at that time.

     At the 1870 census, Helen and daughter Minnie are living with Daniel and family. At the 1880 census Mr Chase is back with the family and called Freeman or Truman. At the 1900 census he is Benjamin T.

     At the 1910 census of Chicago, she is living with brothers Harry and Merritt. Helen may have had a twin brother as the Chicago births 1871-1916 show a Harry M. (Cert #6236) with the same 7-11-1897 birth date. It is likely; however, that this is just a mistake in her name as no other sign of this brother has been found.
     A descendant of her family says that Helen was an amazing woman. She was a Founding Member of the Womans League in Utah and a Smith Metal recipient frm Smith College.
