The registration card gave additional information on him: "He gives his age as 20, born 26 December 1898. He is working as a laborer for Charles Jackson in Winfred Lake, SD.      His brother George supplied the information and said that his mother wrote it down for him long ago. George says that Chester was killed driving a truck. Anthony Hotchkin says his birth was in Brumley, Miller Co., MO. It would seem that Chester's son Clifford would have better information, however when asked, he said that he didn't know. Clifford gives Chesters death and burial location. At the 1920 census, he is living with his sister, Dacel and brother-in-law, Ira A. Ness at 22 Missouri St, Sturgis, SD.

     At the 1860 census, Chester is age 19, living in Liberty with his brother Luther. Chester D. was mustered into Co. G, 143 Regt., NY Infantry, as a Pvt. at Monticello, NY on 9 October 1862 at age 22 after having joined at Liberty, NY, 4 September 1862. He was reported as deserted between Frankstown and Berlin, MD on 16 July 1863. The National Archive Records show that he deserted with (1) Springfield Rifle, 58 caliber, with bayonet, $19.50, (1) Set of accoutrements for 58 cal. rifle, $3.25, (1) Screwdriver & wrench set. $2.30, (1) wiper, $2.04, (1) Spare kit, $1.20, 40 rounds of cartridges, $6.40, 1/2 tent & shelter, $1.63, (1) Canteen, $4.40, (1) Haversack, $5.64. The family tells a story that he deserted and went to Canada after being hung by the thumbs all day for firing a cannon without permission. Chester died unmarried.

     Chloe Hotchkin was born circa 1775. She resided at West Bloomfield, Ontario County, NY, USA, in 1803. She married Reuben Parmelee at West Bloomfield, Ontario County, NY, after 1851.²

     Who is Chloe? Her location in West Bloomfield and approximate age could mean that she is an unknown daughter of Rev. Beriah. Chloe was Reuben's second wife, married after the death of his first wife Sally Cruttenden.
     According to a number of internet sites, it looks as if she is really Chloe Hotchkiss, born 10 Nov 1777 in Norfolk, CT; daughter of Samuel Hotchkiss.Their is some question about this as Samuel Hotchkiss and Samuel Hotchkin, both of Norfolk were often confused.

     William was with Edyth on the ship Fort Hamilton from Bermuda on 7 March 1921 and may have been the William Hotchkin on the ship Mauretania from Liverpool on 4 Feb 1910. No age or city of residence was givern.
     A C. William Hotchkin appears in the Chicago City Directories for 1895 through 1898. He was not in the 1893 directory and there was no available directory for 1894; or any directories for the years 1899 to 1902. In 1895 C. William lived at 4950 Praire and was a manager at 300 S. Canal, in 1896 his home was in Evanston and he was a clerk at 120 Chamber of Commerce Bldg; in 1898 his home was given at 3337 Indiana with no business location. There is no evidence that this is William Clarance except it is known that his brother Frank Marion was in Chicago.
     The Penfield Genealogy says that by 1908 they were living in Brookline, MA and had no children.^4,6
