     The Clodfelter genealogy calls her Betty Jean.

Betty Jean Clodfelter passed away Friday, November 13, 2009, at St. Joseph Village in Manhattan. She was 83.

She was born May 4, 1926, in Arkansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Macleod and Susie Hotchkin, and had lived her entire life in Kansas; in Winfield, where she attended high school, Plainville and Manhattan. She married Lutie D. Clodfelter, of Winfield, KS, on July 20, 1945. They were married nearly 42 years, until his death on May 5, 1987.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Braden, and a brother, Donald Hotchkin. She is survived by sisters, Eunice Tupin of Phoenix, AZ, and Bobbie Riegle of Winfield, KS. Also surviving are her son, Micheal Clodfelter, and his wife Rena, of Lawrence, and her daughter, Linda Schmidt, and her husband Patrick, of Alta Vista, KS. Grandchildren include Tracy Schmidt, and his wife, Hillary, of Manhattan; Todd Schmidt, and his wife Michelle, of Independence, MO; and USAF SSgt. Thomas Clodfelter, stationed at Missawa, Japan. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren: William, Kyler, Kiefer, Katie and Josh.

She worked in various department stores in Winfield and Plainville for many years, but was primarily a homemaker and loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family.

Her favorite pastime was her daily walks. She could outpace and exhaust people half her age, and even when age and infirmity required the use of a walker she could still trot down the sidewalk at a steady clip. All those who knew her and loved her will retain an image of that lean lady in motion.

Graveside Services will be 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday November 17, 2009 at the Plainville Cemetery, Plainville, Kansas.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday November 15, 2009 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, Manhattan, Kansas.

     Betty is listed in the 1951 Seattle City Directory, living with her parents at 2912 W. Blaine St, and working as a cashier at Kloffensteins Inc.

     Betty was born at MI, USA, on 30 December 1925. She was the daughter of Donald James Hotchkin and Julia Mae Smith. Betty Joyce Hotchkin married O'Neil A. Del Giudice, son of J. O. Del Giudice, on 16 October 1944 at IL, USA. Betty Joyce Hotchkin lived in 1946 at Melrose Park, Cook County, IL, USA. She married Charles S. Vega at IL after 1950. She resided at Las Vegas, Clark County, NV, USA, in 1990. Betty Joyce Hotchkin died in April 1996 at Las Vegas, Clark County, NV, at age 70.

Calculate age from death at age 91, 8, 9 would be 23 June 1868. She was the daughter of Daniel Myron Hotchkin and Elsie A. Berringer. She married Frank C. Truran at Crawford County, PA, USA, in 1892.      On a Passport application dated 6 Oct 1916 she says that she is sailing on the Empress Asia for Japan and then to the Phillipines to join her husband and then return by way of Hong Kong. With her will be their 9 year old son Rchard Albert.

     Bobbie Lee Hotchkin is the daughter of Mac Leod Hotchkin and Susie May Heth. Bobbie Lee Hotchkin married Jimmie Lee Riegel, son of William Theron Riegel and Lucile Bernice Cornelison, in March 1954.

The 1959 Tampa, FL City Directory says that Frieda is the widow of Burr. His death is not listed in the Florida death Index or SSDI, so he must have died before she moved to Florida. It is likely that she moved there because her son was living in Florida..

Burr Frank Hotchkin Jr. enlsted on 3 March 1943 while living at New York City, New York County, NY, USA. His enlistment notes said: " Burr F. Hotchkin, born 1917, native of New York. no branch assigned, Private, enlisted for duration, 2 years of high school, married, height 89, weight 123. He returned from Europe as a S/Sgt on 31 August 1945 aboard the Queen Mary.". He married Katherine H. Unknown before 1956. Nothing is known about this person except for the divorce.. Burr Frank Hotchkin Jr. and Katherine H. Unknown were divorced in October 1956 at Hillsborough County, FL, USA. Florida Divorce Index 1927 - 2001 has a divorce of Burr F. Hotchkin and Katherine H. Hotchkin, Oct 1956 in Hillsborough Co, FL..² He married Marjorie Aldine Johnson at Hillsborough County, FL, in October 1956.
