At the close of the war he was brevetted Lient. Col. for distinguished services. He has been almost continuously a member of the Board of Education, serving either as Secy or President. He was a member of the US Examining Board for Pensions from 1880 to 1896. He was at first a Baptist and then a Presbyterian and for more than 25 years was an elder in the Presbyterian church.¹
