On October 31, 1865, James L. Filkins, and a posse of several others, entered the Loomis homestead in the middle of the night with the purpose of cleaning out the Loomis Gang. Encountering 'Wash', and getting him into the woodshed, Filkins began beating 'Wash" with a ivory handled long barreled .44. The revolver rose and fell until 'Wash's hair and skin peeled from his skull. He died of his wounds the following day.

Gordon Finkbeiner Buried Monday
Funeral services for Gordon Finkbeiner, 55, of Owendale were held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the Methodist Church at Gagetown. Burial was made in Elkland Cemetery. Mr. Finkbeiner died Friday in the Veteran's Hospital in Saginaw after an illness of almost three weeks. He was transferred from the Cass City Hospital to Saginaw last Tuesday where his condition steadily grew worse.
Son of the late Fred and Lavina Schweitzer Finkbeiner, he was born Jan. 21, 1896, in Fair Haven Township, Huron County. He and Miss Fannie Hendrick were married July 24, 1918.
Surviving is his widow; a son, Everett, of Gagetown; two daughters, Mrs. Vivian Agar of Owendale and Evelyn at home; four; five sisters, Mrs. Ed Schenk (Nellie) and Miss Beulah Finkbeiner of Bad Axe, Mrs. Earl McKee (Ethel) of Detroit, Mrs. Beatrice Armbruster of Bay City; and four brothers Earle of Detroit, Charles of Sebewaing and Walter and Lloyd of Cass City..
